Lashing Winches

I bought an Aerovault MKII because it’s an design and engineering masterpiece that I can use to two my SL-C behind my SUV. I opted for the Mac’s VersaTie track option which is amazing. However, the trailer is compact and even with direct-hook ratchet straps the ratchet handle was hitting the splitter. After doing some research I found that Mac’s offers lashing winches to address this issue. The challenge was figuring out how to attach them to the VersaTie track.

I purchased four VersaTie Threaded Studs and I laser cut mounting plates from 1/4” 4130. Fortunately the M10 bolts in the lashing winch have the same spacing as the round holes in the VersaTie and M10 nylocs fit in those recesses. However, I had to trim the nolts that came with the lashing winches so that they wouldn’t bind on the bottom of the VersaTie track.

The lashing winch bolts have been trimmed and are secured to the 1/4” 4130 plate with nylocs. The VersaTie Threaded Studs are mounted in the track and are ready to receive the plate, but the front stud hasn’t been trimmed yet.

The assemnly is mounted to the studs. I cut the front mounting stud so that the strap would clear it.

If the strap exits the winch at the lowest possible position, it will clear the nuloc and trimmed stud. However, I 3D printed a spacer to ensure that the strap never abrades the nut or bolt when setting things up.
