Maintenance — Fuel Cell

Tighten the bolts in THREE alternating bolt patterns to 24 in-lb.

The bolt pattern on the fuel level sender is not symetrical and it only goes on one way (see picture). The roll over vent needs 13/16” on the inside and -6 AN wrench on the outside (you leave the hose end isntalled so that you can use it).

Removal

  • Drain gas from tank (need to specify how to do this)

  • Place drip pan under oval and remove the 24 bolts

  • From the engine compartment

    • Disconnect the fuel fill hose

    • Loosen the retention tabs

  • Using the access panel on the bottom of the car to the left of the fuel tank, disconnect the following from the bladder

    • -6 AN Vent

    • -10 AN Supply

    • -?? AN Return

    • Electrical connector

  • Via the oval:

    • Remove the foam taking care to note the order of the pieces to facilitate reinstalltion

    • Remove the -8AN supply hose connected to the bulkhead fitting

    • Release the low-pressure pump from the clamp (specify tools)

    • Carefully drag the pump and pickups towards the oval and unplug the electrical connector near the pump

    • Remove the pump and pickups through the oval

    • Remove the roll over vent. One person uses the access hole to prevent the 90 degree fitting from spinning and the other person rotate the red body inside the fuel cell. Ensure that you don’t lose the crush washer nor the sphere.

    • Loosen the retention tabs on the vent, supply, return and electrical connector plates

  • Fuel level sender???

  • Remove the bladder by doing the following:

    • Collapse and pull the left side of the bladder through the oval. One person uses the access panel to apply pressure to the supply and return bungs while a second person person carefully grasps the left side of the bladder through the oval opening while pulling down and to the right side of the car. Care must be taken to keep the grasp as far as possible from the flange.

    • Collapse and pull the right side of the bladder through the oval.

Install

Make sure that the roll over vent has a crush washer and sphere!
